Environment
Like in chemistry, the work space is similar to a dental clinic. There are hazardous materials and safety precautions which must always be kept in mind. It is important like in a chemistry lab that the technician knows what will happen between the reactions/experiments as so with dentists. Dentists much so need to know more, expanding their knowledge of not only chemistry but biology.

The Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) contains information on the chemical and physical hazardous items in the workplace. In a dental clinic, it is centrally located so it allows easy access for all personnel. A knowledge of the WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Material Information System) symbols are required before entering and working in a lab.
Work spaces as well as tools must be kept clean and sanitary. Chemists wear lab coats, googles, proper foot wear, have any hair tied up, and gloves if nessisary. Dentists must have similar attire, with the addition of a mask and latex gloves. Disposal of each are standard precautions according to the Canadian Dental Association.

In a dental clinic setting, dentists will be working with chemicals (metals, fillings, braces, surgery medication, etc.) and will be working with them near/in a humans mouth. They use a mouth as their work space and cannot make any mistakes.
